Defining & Setting Your Goals

Blogging is not for undetermined people, it’s for people with the ultimate goal to succeed.

Blogging has never been easy. Learning and sticking with your goals will not make it complicated.

Defining and setting your goals will make you create and master unique methods you can employ to take yourself to a great crest, and also take blogging to the next level. So what are the core components of reasonable, practicable, and attainable goals?

What are the techniques you can employ and explore to help you develop and attain your goals? What are the strategies you can implement?

Blogging will be fun when there are goals. But it’s important to set goals for yourself when you want to start blogging whether for something or nothing, but if you always want to be working towards something, you will begin breaking your goals down so that you won’t be overwhelmed.

Defining and setting time your goals to make achievements helps to streamline your focus and efforts. The following are easy to make sure you reach the goals you defined and set.

  1. Set long term goals: Don’t impose any limit on what you are deemed to achieve– rather, define and set your goals and keep looking towards what you want your blog to become when it is successful.

For example:
I want to help million people achieve their dreams with my blog
I will/want to have 30,000 email subscribers
I will/want to create 100 online courses that add values
I will/want to publish 3 outstanding ebooks
I will/want to make $10,000 per month with my blog

  1. Set daily goals: No sooner you strived to start blogging every blessed day, you become passionate or have a zeal for achieving daily goals but at least setting a goal and achieving it will be meaningful. By the end of the day, you should be able to visualize what you’ve achieved in a day.

You love to start a blog, however, when you have set goals to achieve while blogging, you will be a great destroyer of overwhelm! By achieving your daily goals, you’re pointing your actions in the right place.

For example:
I will/want to publish 1 or 2 blog posts every day.

  1. Set weekly goals: Your weekly goals will make your monthly goals achievable and realizable. You should think about how and what you want to do a week, thereby graduating to a month.

For example:
I will publish 7 blog posts weekly.

  1. Set monthly and yearly goals: Go after the things you can do on a monthly basis. From a monthly basis, everything you want to achieve a year will be possible. If your yearly intentions are to have more than 30,000 unique members on your membership site, develop goals that will create an easy way to get at least 2,000 members a month. As you’re getting a considerable amount of members, you will also achieve your yearly goals.
  1. Reviewing Your Daily, Weekly, Monthly, & Yearly Goals: By reviewing your goals, you make your milestones trackable, make your goals modifiable and changeable, but also get the best results from having defined and set your goals.
Blog For Blogging

A large number of people blog just to fulfill a part of their lives, they try relaying their thoughts and voices to everyone out there, those interested and waiting to hear their voice. So, if you want to blog about your personal life and experience, then choosing that is better for you.

However, if you’re inquisitive or curious about reaping rewards from your blog, then you will need to formulate a lot of strategies.

Knowing What A Blog Is

What’s a Blog?

A blog is just a space on the web. It’s conversely mistaken with the meaning of a website. Whereas, a blog and a website is the same thing but with a slightly different function.

A blog is frequently and constantly updated with published content, commonly depicted and portrayed in a conversational or casual mode. A blog is always sensed with the goal of captivating and exciting readers and visitors while yielding and generating revenue.

Basic Blogging Knowledge

  1. The First Basic Knowledge:

Most people think they can’t start a blog themselves. They are always thinking that “I have to know how to code”.

This is not true. You don’t need to start rushing to learn programming, design skills, or coding to build a professional and successful blog. Albeit, you can conclude to learn programming later but you don’t have to worry about any programming or coding experience to start a blog from start to finish.

Themes are designed and capable to help you achieve this and create a conducive environment for your blog. Easy to customize, and can ultimately be installed with just a few clicks, drags and drops, etc.

  1. To Choose Perfect Domain name

Deciding and choosing the right domain name is one of the most vital elements to create a successful blog. Not choosing the right domain name can make a blog downturn whereby downgrading its quality.

If you choose a domain name that restricts you to only certain things, it might be the first mistake you surmount while starting a blog. However, if you choose a domain name that makes it easy for you to blog from a specific niche or any angles, then you’ve chosen wisely.

  • A professional blog’s domain name should have a .com domain extension.
  • A good domain name will always be easy to spell, pronounce, precise, and will be as little or straightforward as possible.

Choosing a domain name can also be inclined to your brand name or something that relates to your keywords.
Deciding to use your name as a domain name can also be unique.

For example, will be friendly in a search engine, than
And is a search engine friendly domain name.

  1. To Choose The Right Web Hosting Provider

Deciding to choose the right web hosting is an incredible decision made by bloggers but beginners and a lot of people want to take a look at the cheapest web hosting available.

Choosing the right web hosting is the second decision to be made before starting a blog. This is because everything you do on a blog is saved on the web hosting space.

While most people, especially beginners prefer getting free hosting, but don’t know that deciding on a free web hosting or domain is invariably a bad idea. Moreover, this will consume your efforts, time, and money, and also leave you with doubt and huge setbacks.

Choosing a reliable web hosting company is the best idea. However, various factors are considered just before choosing any hosting.
There is;

  • VPS hosting,
  • Shared hosting,
  • Managed hosting
  • WordPress hosting, and even more. But choosing what aligns with your goals will be the best decision.

Just as we’ve said, starting a new blog comes with a lot of money. And luckily, our first choice is choosing Bluehost. We have gotten a special discount from Bluehost. They will offer 50% off and a free domain name registration to our readers and visitors.

  1. To Understand Copyright Laws & Plagiarism

If you want to start blogging or you have just started blogging, you might be tempted to practice the copy-paste act for content, articles, and images from the Internet. However, don’t think you have browsed and had a glimpse of copyrighted materials.

Copying and using an image from Google for example will only make you pay for Copyright Infringement. So, why do this when there are productive ways to publish articles, get your content disseminated, and design the best images for your website?

If you copy another person’s images and use them as your own, the owner may begin taking legal action against you which can even be worse than just finding something else without anyone noticing.

To get high-quality content, or image for your website, you might want to hire other people to do it legally for you, or you take some enthusiastic steps to get it done yourself.

And today, there are tons of free and paid online tools to get your work done. Apps that allow you to produce high-quality images on your blog with their free tools, services, and resources.

See Canva
See Shutterstock
See Unsplash, etc.

  1. To Understand Consistency

Having a goal makes you strive for days, weeks, months, or years until it becomes a reality and totally achieved. However, you can’t force yourself down over things that are beyond your control.

If you can adapt to posting every day, don’t set this kind of goal, instead, set goals that will make you consistent. You have to be consistent in your plan if you have one.

Don’t beat yourself down because you have to stay alive to stay consistent and achieve your goals and dreams. Decide on how often or repeatedly you will publish, or make some things on your blog, and keep a balance of regularity.

It’s easy to stumble in the absence of discipline and consistency. Lack of consistency kills a blog, and you need to keep up a momentum that will help you stay focused and motivated so your goals are easily achieved.

While you are just starting, or you just want to improve, then you can start with 3 posts a week or stick with something that will make you develop a disciplined approach with your blog, thereafter improving this quality.

  1. To Know That You Can’t Be Perfect To Build A Successful Blog

Understand that you can’t be perfect to be good at what you do (blogging). Don’t look at others and experts who are far or much better than you, and see your work as saddening and annoying. They have tried hard enough to make their blogs look good too but you don’t need to be perfect but what you need is improvement.

It’s good to stay aloft of whatever seems ambiguous for one, it’s ok to make mistakes as long as you can realize and fix them.

You needn’t worry about too much grammars. Don’t overdo it and become pompous but be personalized and find your unique voice because it’s something important to workout when writing/blogging.

Few people get upset over grammar, pronunciation, writing, or spelling mistakes, but all these are inevitable because it’s human nature to commit blunders and make mistakes.

Don’t try to beat yourself up over your grammars but be sure to make a blog functioning by not losing hope. However, where there’s a tool for this, we recommend that you use tools like Grammarly to help streamline your works and also allow you to capture some errors while trying to complete the work.

Having the courage to start and execute is better than perfection without a result.

What Should You Blog About

You can’t get stuck here because you already have a goal and a dream that you are determined to achieve.

You’ve decided to start a blog, started a blog already and your blog is steering towards an empty space? You want to come about with every idea that solves your readers’ and visitors’ problems.

But, in a blink of an eye, you don’t know what to blog regarding, what to blog about, and how to smooth out your writing skills and generate income. When you’re starting a blog, you should be sure of this stand, you should ask yourself these questions:

  • You have defined your goals, then what are your goals?
  • What are your interests?
  • What area of your life do you want to improve?
  • What value can you give?
  • What problem can you solve?
  • What are others interested in, or what do people wang to read?
  • What do you know than the people around you?

Goals are things that just need to be acted upon, fight for! If you have a goal that you’re determined to achieve, then you should gladly work towards it. Is it to reach 1Million users a month with a blog? Or to make $30,000 monthly from your blog?

It’s customary that a whole lot of people blog for their comfort, and fulfillment. Because they wang to share their emotions and reflections with whoever is interested in or accustomed to them. If you choose to blog about your personal experience and lifestyle, you will find it transparent enough to know what to blog about.

Conversely, if you want to make a blog a profit gateway, you will want to consider writing and publishing articles that drive a high amount of audience thereby generating more income from this huge volume.

If you simply want to achieve that goal, you will spend your days, your night, and your sleeps for it until it becomes achieved. When you think about reaching your destination, every form of ideas will come your way, you only need to conjure the courage to make them a reality.

What is your interest?

If there is an area of your life that you’d like to better – your job, your community, your country, your life, your health, your marriage, your cooking skills – blogging could be the perfect outlet for it!

You can blog about healthy eating and fitness tips for every age gap, parents, and others interested in this niche – and in the process, improve your own health!

You can choose to blog because you want to change and create a great legacy for others to trend and change the way they understand life.
But among the most important thing to consider when choosing a blog niche or topic is passion and what you are interested in blogging or writing about.

If you’re not passionate about something, it’s easy to lose control of, or give it up and throw in the towel on the way. While you’re passionate about what you blog or write about, your readers will love to visit and read from you.

What Value Can You Give?

While trying to develop full potential and succeed, you should be able to help others grow, and give more than you take.

When people recognize you with transparency and integrity, or they find out that you want to improve or affect something they need or want, it becomes easier for them to develop trust for you.

When you find a way to create value and transform your creativity or passion for solving people’s problems, you’re giving value and there’s no doubt that you will succeed.

What Problems Can You Solve?

If people find you and your blog valuable, you become loved by them. It’s better than paying for the top hosting plan and mocking the audience to get their attention. Attention spurs from what you signal to them.

Having a decent wife (10th class) is far more sufficient and better than having a first-class wife with a rotten attitude and personality.

What are others interested in, or what do people want to read?
Your personal interests are what motivate you to start a blog. However, understanding your readers and the specific audience is a reason why success revolves around successful and profitable blogs. They don’t only blog to fulfill their own desires, rather they also manage to build their walls and ideas to expand and broaden readership.

To make a blog that revolves around success doesn’t require only your interests or your zeal for gratification or what you love go write about, it requires you to deem and consider what other people like to read and search for.

Regardless of how intelligent, or how brilliant you are, to attract an audience, you must have strategy and ideas or the right subject to find it easy to achieve your goals. If you want to know what others will like to read, you must consider:

  • What they search for (Keyword searches)
  • Their demographic
  • Having a good blog layout

Find Your Niche

Finding Your Niche

Having a niche plays a great role in your blogging journey. It’ll guide you along the way and help you determine who and where your audience is, what you need to focus most on, which products you need to create, what area of marketing and monetization you need to induce, which post ideas you will focus on, and what strategies work for you.

When you have a specific niche, it will save you a lot of stress and help streamline your workflow. It’s prudent when you are just starting to choose a niche that best focuses on a specific audience. But having a niche when you’ve started for a long time and driving enough traffic can sound strange sometimes.

Your niche will make it much easier to increase your traffic, give priority to your search engine rankings and make you stand out and remarkable among your competitors, help you focus on which type of revenue strategy that’s best for your chosen niche, and have your time producing content that won’t receive traffic and end up losing control of your efforts.

Just because of the large competition for every niche, starting and targeting a broad audience just may seem detrimental to a beginner’s blog and can be difficult to compete with other blogs reaching out to a large audience.

Finding Your Niche Isn’t Enough To Create A Successful Blog!

Choosing a blog niche means you already have an area of interest or many interests. Therefore, your niche may conform and be attracting different — age, race, and gender (demographics) that have multiple interests.

But uncovering your target audience sets you high to having niche conformity. Meaning, if you know who you’re writing for, you will be able and find it easy to take full control of what they need and want.
While you’re simply targeting a group of readers with the same interests and getting their attention, you will gladly be creating practical content for them.

Defining Your Audience

While you’re just starting or already on the blogging journey, you will wonder who your audience is, who your blog is designed for, who will read your blog, and visit every time for more.

Your audience is visitors, readers, and people who your blog can help almost completely. They’re the people who discover and learn, solve their problems, get the biggest and maximum value in your blog, products, articles, and are most inclined to fall in love with what your content, and everything you offer.

So, defining and having your target audience in mind is one of the best decisions you will be making with your blog.

Why Should Your Define Your Audience?

Because you’re starting a blog doesn’t mean you already know what your blog will produce tomorrow, but your hope and goals will make you work towards bringing your blog to your destination.

If you have just gotten a domain and a host, the next thing is ensuring they produce explicit and specific results and you will want to make sure you’re not investing, or using your time and energy on something not worthwhile.

The only direction you could take to make sure your efforts aren’t in vain or to organize your actions into a constructive strength is to know and understand why you are writing and blogging, who you’re writing, and blogging for. If you’re able to ensure this, your blog, products, and the content will be generating as much effective traffic as possible.

If you don’t know how to do this, then follow the steps below:

  1. Using Social Media Platforms
  • Facebook Groups: Facebook is a huge platform for searching and getting to know what people really want and need. Users tend to join groups and discussions for their areas of expertise. By paying close attention, you can get to know your audience from public groups.

The simple act of searching groups for questions and answers that is related to your blogging niche might be a driving force to getting your target audience.

  • Pinterest: You can use the search area Pinterest to know what people are searching for, what they need and the keywords ranking on every search term.

Every recommended keyword not only brings search results, they help direct more traffic to your website when your content (shared on Pinterest) is showing up in Pinterest results after sharing.

Pinterest search terms in this regard are used to connect and find out what specific term is ranking through Pinterest users’ frequent and related search.

  • Quora: Quora is a good place to get what people are searching for and asking for regarding just what you need. If you visit Quora for your blog niche questions and suggestions, you will be able to take advantage of what people are interested in.

If you type your simple words or question on Quora, it will show you related question that brings tons of responses and impression.

  1. Using Other blogger’s blogs:

Using other blogs can be tricky and delicate, it can just be a cheat on the end of your competitor’s blogs. However, it’s a better option to know what your audience want.

Make possible research on your competitor blog posts and draw your analysis from blog posts that are serving well with the audience thereby getting an idea of what you need to do with your blog posts.

  1. Using Public Forums:

Using Public forums makes it easy for you to get your niche related keywords if you’re able to build behind what others are sharing with your target audience.

  1. Using Google Search:

The rapid and fastest way to discover your ideal audience is through the use of search engines. Almost everyone runs to search engines like Google to ask questions and get their answers or related.

You can use this judiciously by making keyword researches after getting enough information about your search and what people are searching for. It’s the easiest way to know what to build your blog posts behind and find out who your competitors are.

  1. Making Reviews of Apps and Websites:

Every time, everywhere, people use various products and services that conform with their needs.

If you can seize this opportunity and make a review of applications and websites, you will be able to discover your target and ideal audience.

These domain name changed from the unique .com, .org, and .net to niche-specific and generic extensions like .fashion, .blog, .photography, .club, .space, .pizza and so on.

Our strong recommendation: Choose “.com” over other domain name extensions. If you can’t get that or found out it’s already taken, try the unique “.org, and “.net. When you’re still trying hard and can’t find these three options, try coming up with another domain name ideas, you can also follow our steps from above again and again.

It isn’t easy coming up with smart and intelligent domain names trying new extensions, you won’t doubt choosing the .com extension because it is durable, credible, and the most established among all other domain name extensions apart from .net, and .org.

Take this as a case study

Many successful websites you see may use “.net” and “.org”, but to find yourself and your website a better look, it is better to go with a “.com” extension.

Domains created with a “. com” extension are highly free from the percentage risk of being mistaken with a different extension. While you are trying to access another person’s website, something unique will come to your mind and the option to add a domain extension will be choosing .com.
Most keyboard gives .com extension suggestion while you try to type something in the “search-space”.

Don’t let .fashion, .blog, .photography, .club, .space, .pizza and so on extension be mistaken as a subdomain of a website while others are trying to type it.

If your domain name is created with a .fashion extension, many users may mistaken it for (as an example) which is a risk to end up with a wrong domain name, and losing your visitors.

  1. Make It Easy To Type. Don’t Consider Double Letter

Make it easy to type and spell your domain name. This is because it is a good option to make your domain name easy to type without a problem. When visitors find it easy to type your domain name, they are likely to visit your website if what you offer is something valuable without even trying any search engine.

The moment you try to explain your domain name to a lot of people who keep asking on every occasion is the time you’ll get to know that your domain name is hard to type.

The disadvantage is that people will try to type your domain but they will end up on another person’s website. This can lead to the loss of visitors.

While trying to use an easy-to-type domain name, it’s a good idea to avoid creating a domain with doubled letters. If you avoid domain names with doubled letters, your chances of losing traffic to typographic errors are low.
If a website has as its domain name, it’s prone to losing traffic because of the chance of typographic error.

  1. Don’t Use Hyphens & Numbers

It’s never advisable to create a domain name with hyphens and numbers. Creating a domain name with hyphens gives your visitors a negative impression. The bulk of a lot of visitors may consider such domain name a spam domain which will primarily make you lose a lot of potential visitors to your website.

Don’t add hyphens to your domain name because you think the domain has already been taken by someone else. Try and devise a new and simple domain name.

For example, “” is more simple and brandable than

Creating a domain name with numbers can make people think it’s a “username”. While you’re trying to make your domain name simple and easy to pronounce, you must make sure it is easy to type and think without having doubts.

For example can be mistaken for and this can constitute a huge loss of traffic if your visitors are typing “” instead of “”, hoping to land on your website but landing on your competitor’s website.

  1. Don’t Choose A Domain Already With A Trademark

To avoid legal issues, staying away from names that already have trademarks is paramount to achieving this.

Before choosing a particular domain name, make sure to check if the name has already appeared on the web or social media, as well as if there are any trademarks already associated with or registered to the name of the domain choose.

Use tools like Knowem to search for a potential domain name. Knowem is a popular tool that will show you results from more than 25 social networks, and also tell if there are any trademarks associated with the name.

Knowing the result will help you create a name for your brand across every social media which can make your visitors, fans, readers, students, etc, know and find you easily.

  1. Consider What you Want To Achieve

Your domain name will have a significant impact on the journey of your blogging success and potential. If you can decide to use a domain name that conforms with what you want to achieve, it can be the greatest decision you have ever made for your blog!

Note: Change the to your registered domain name.

After a successful WordPress installation, the next step is customizing your blog’s layout, and appearance to which is basically making it your own and directly to your satisfaction.

Step 3. Selecting Your WordPress Theme

Theme gives the true visual impact and appearance of your website. If the wrong theme is chosen, this could be the resulting negative impact on a website. It can confuse and also scare away visitors, it can make visitors drool out of their mouth and make them come to your website every day just to check out your latest updates because of the theme! Amazing?

You’re on WordPress and the default first theme was chosen by WordPress to beautify your website could be amazing but not something you can adapt to, or not even something you think your visitors like.

There are thousands of WordPress themes free and paid that you can install and establish on your blog/website.

The first step to take for changing the default theme on your website is going to your WordPress dashboard, navigating and clicking on Appearance > Themes, to add or select an already installed theme, or to search for a free pre-made theme.

If you wish to change the theme, click on the Add New button.

After clicking the Add New button, you will see a list of the latest themes or recently updated themes on the screen. If you scroll and continue searching for a theme of choice, you can be giving yourself stress but the WordPress theme directory gives you the option to filter theme results, according to your niche. You can also sort theme results by popular, latest, featured, and other feature filters (i.e layout, industry, etc).

There are more than 7,500+ free WordPress themes available in the official themes directory. You can choose from these results.

When you find a theme of choice, hover the mouse on the theme and you will see a Preview button and an Install button. If you click on the “Preview” button, it will open the theme preview so you can see how they will configure your website when you activate.

To offer an amazing experience to your users, choose a simple and clean WordPress theme over any other theme because this will define the look of the content your website displays.

Remember, the theme previewed doesn’t look exactly like what you see in the theme description and screenshot. When you start customizing and making changes to your theme, you will get to see the true picture of what you previewed initially.

There are five important aspects of a theme to look at upon previewing:

  • Speed
  • Design
  • Colors
  • Layout (with or without sidebars)
  • Typography & other elements.

The next is installing the theme, customizing, and activating.

There are two options;

  • Customize before Activating
  • Activate before Customizing.

After all, you’re just starting and nobody knows exactly about your new website except if you have already informed them before setting it up.

After previewing the theme, go back to the directory and hover the mouse on the theme you like, then click the “Install” button to keep the choice theme inside your website directory.

Wait for the theme to install. And the “Install” button will be replaced by the “Activate” button which you can click to activate the theme and applying the theme settings to your website.

Upon activating your theme, you can navigate to Appearance > Customize to customize your present theme.

Stage 6

Planning & Writing

Consistency and originality will pay off while blogging! But a small dose of strategy will help a lot as well. When you stay determined to achieve your goals, you’ll work every day to stay consistent until you achieve that determined goal.

Writing, creating content consistently will persuade readers to continue visiting your website. If what you offer is not valuable, they may decide not to come back to your website thereby losing the bulk of these productive visitors because of the mistake you make when planning to write, writing, and publishing.

Your blog will grow the authority within your niche, field, or area of specification.

Maintaining a great but consistent schedule, building a routine, and not overwhelming will make you succeed in writing.

Blogging, writing, is about you and your needs, sometimes it might be what others need. As long as it helps you to heal in some way, you don’t have to become overwhelmed to achieve blogging success.

If a person lives a life of excuses, then there is a need for a content priority calendar that reminds of what’s needed to prioritize and put into action before wasting productive time.

Deciding on how often to blog depends on your end goals and what you need to achieve on your website.

If it’s to increase your traffic, you may want to publish more frequently because this gives search engines more chances to find your website and bring visitors to it.

  • Don’t ever compare your blog to other blogs but have your end goals in mind. Some blogs may be able to write rapidly and publish more often because they have multiple writers working on just a blog, and you may never want to compete with them in writing. If you’re competing with them, then you must be sure of having multiple writers on your blog. If you’re the only writer for your blog, you’ll have to find the medium that will make you create a balance between your schedule and what you’re trying to accomplish with your blog.

Planning takes a huge impact on the blog and if there’s no plan set aside to help guide through blogging, it is easy to lose focus and end up quitting.

Planning for your blog stimulates your blog growth. There are basic settings you must be familiarized with while building your blog and setting it up, completely! When giving the best advice, it’s good to stay aloft of ambiguity and stay on the main point without divergencies

After setting up your blog’s main appearance, the next is to focus on creating something productive and meaningful.

Among the important things are;

  • Permalink Structure (URL Structure)
  • Homepage (Frontpage, Home page)
  • About Page
  • Contact Page
  • Legal Pages (e.g, Privacy Policy, Terms and Conditions, Term of Use, Disclaimer, etc.
  • Permalink Structure (URL Structure)

Permalink structure is the permanent URL structure of your blog/website pages, posts, and other forms of website components. It’s easy to edit in WordPress. However, permalink structures are also cited as pretty links. It gives your website the key difference from other websites. By default,

WordPress sets default permalink or URL structures using query string format. Originally, for most websites, this default permalink structure may not serve well in SEO and doesn’t help most websites covey their unique content to their audience.

It’s easily modifiable and customizable in the WordPress dashboard by going to Settings > Permalinks (where you see the Permalinks options)

Example of default WordPress Permalink Structure:

After changing from the initial string to a new URL structure (often readable) you’ll find your blog’s URLs human-friendly, and SEO friendly.

There are many other formats available in WordPress. From Day and name, month and name, numeric, posts name, to custom permalinks.

If you change the URL structure from the beginning of your WordPress website setup, this is the best option and you can change it back later or even still be able to customize an article’s URL before publishing in WordPress. As long as the permalink structure is SEO friendly, you don’t have to worry about changing it on-and-off.

You may also want to change the default URL of your website to include and have “www” assigned and associated with it, just before your domain name (URL).

If you want to change this, you will be changing to

To do this, click Settings in your WordPress dashboard > General and follow the instruction displayed on this page.

Set how your URL structure should be displayed by simply editing and changing to https://www. (You can also edit the URL and add the www. prefix.

After setting this, anyone that tries to enter your website typing the URL without (the www. prefix) will be redirected to the www. version of your website, and all of the pages and posts on your website will now be redirected automatically to the www version. This Is an easy outlook to a whole lot of people, and your readers will find it easy accessing and trysting the website they visit.

  • Homepage (Frontpage, Main Page)

The homepage is the main page of your website. Whatsoever you’ve added to your website displays here. If not configured correctly or mishandled, it scares away visitors. It’s the first page where the website navigation menus and other website elements of a website first appears.

So, after setting up your blog, choosing a theme, and configuring permalink structure, all your latest posts appear and are listed here on the homepage. This is the default WordPress setting for a new website. Usually to help non-techy users.

After this default setting is acknowledged, you may want to change a static page or decide to use a special, constructed static page as your custom homepage. If you prefer this, then you’re taking your blog to a slightly next level, a semi-featured website with special insertion.

To set a static page, you will have to create a regular WordPress page from Page > Add New in your WordPress admin dashboard. After which you’ll have to modify some settings and assign the Page as the homepage by going to Settings > Reading, then select the name If the page you have recently created to be your homepage.

Another way to adjust your homepage or create a static front page is to create a front-page.php file or a home.php file (Recommended if the first attempt fails).

In another way, the homepage can serve as your bait page where you can display your products, email opt-ins, instructions, courses, etc.

While you don’t have enough content on your blog, a good content strategy would be to display the full detailed article of your blog posts instead of excerpts for visitors to check and move from one blog post to another without knowing that you’re just starting and have written little content.

If you’re seeing short previews (excerpts) of your blog posts on the homepage while having little content, you can go to Settings > Reading, and click on “Display full article” instead of Excerpts.

Note: you may decide to change this setting back to excerpt as you become attached to your content schedule — meaning that you’re now posting consistently.

Setting up your blog’s navigation menu

A fresh-new blog will find it easy to have it’s content on the homepage, displaying recent blog posts on the homepage and making them appear as full articles without the need for a navigation menu. As the blog continues to improve, with pages, posts, and other options, deciding on a navigation menu spurs into the blog because it will guide visitors to find your whole blog content wherever they may be.

After publishing 10-15 blog posts and your pillar pages like About, Contact, Services, Privacy Policy, Disclaimer, Shop, etc. You may need to have a navigation menu either on the header area, header/footer area, or header and footer area where you need to showcase everything on your blog, inside-out.

  • About Page

The About Page showcase all the necessary information about your blog, what your visitors and readers are going to find about you and what they might be interested in what service you provide for the large audience.

It will be one of the pillar pages people go to after reading your shared posts or posts that appears on the search engine. It creates an easy pathway for people who wants to learn about you to know you quite more better.

Writing The About Page

Think about what you are interested in while reading someone else story or about page. What you became astounded about and how you reacted to it. Put yourself in front of a chair and visualize things from the other person’s perspectives. Literally, the About Page can be used to introduce who you are, your company, your story, successes, struggles, aims, your expertise, your value, etc.

  • Tips
  1. The About page can be used to show the value you’re establishing for your readers— no matter how important it is:

You have to make clear who you’re trying to attract, and address with your About page. You must include some things about you and what value you are providing for your readers and even any strangers that lands on your blog.

For example, if you want your blog to focus on all about lifestyle, then you must be able to come up with ideas that will gear your visitors to read your blog, not only to stay but to interact with you. You must be able to convince them that they are reading from the right place and landed right to the right space.

  1. Trust and the reason they read your blog and better still listen to you.

There must be a reason why your readers should trust you, trust your blog, and the value you provide. You must be able to defend their potential questions and make sure your blog is a space where they can stay and feel safe.

Something they will think about every time they read your blog, while not deviating from the purpose. It’s should be something you like to disseminate, relay, perhaps after learning or discovering new things and wanting to let others know.

You should also be able to establish somewhere you have benefitted and places where your works have been felt if you have one. Maybe schools, companies, magazines, journals, etc where they can track the sources and able to link back to you.

  1. Use it to address your readers and allow them to understand what your providing and win over their attention:

Don’t let anyone come to your about page and have various types of doubt. Let them know the type of content they will find in every corner of your blog and make them know the blog is for them so they wouldn’t be thinking otherwise that you powered the blog for your ultimate benefits. It’s for you but the best part is that the blog is directed to them to solve their problems and find anything they are looking for — on your blog.

If you’re a well-established person in your niche and wants to make your readers drool on your About page to compelling them with your ideas, then you can include the benefits of your blog, what you’ve done so far to belong to this niche (whether as a community member and as a person that has contributed positively across the niche-specific platforms and forums). This will help them develop trusts to make them come back to your blog even if you don’t remind them.

Don’t try and get discouraged on the way while trying to meet up to everyone’s expectations. You can’t meet up really, but when you continue blogging with consistency and dedication, you will be improving to reach more audience than usual.

  1. How your readers are going to navigate your blog, where they will head over after knowing you.

This is the place where you inform them about your other resources, where they are going on your blog, and where you want them to be after reading the About page. This can be a link to your blog posts, opt-in, social follows. All to keep in touch with you without linking out to somewhere else, somewhere they can’t vibe with.

Don’t mistake this portion for something else. It should be treated with some degree of professionalism and taken with a competent outlook to create a great user intent and allow your readers to knock on your doors every time you set out some things.

Don’t talk to someone else with your About page, talk to your audience, and draw their attention to your blog by focusing most on them. Don’t direct your blog to everyone, it’s as though you’re directing it to no one.

  • Contact Page

A lot of people take the advantage of the Contact Page to grow their authorities elsewhere, even to make their readers connect with them on their social media networks. While others make available their website email for contact so their visitors can drop feedback, suggestions, questions, collaboration, etc and comment with them through email, it has been one of the unique ideas for so many years and still working tremendously.

The first step above may sound like a daunting task to some people because of spamming but another best method which is available and used in more than 90% of websites is the Contact Form which

To set up a Contact Page, you should set in some instructions and guidelines your readers will follow to make sure they can contact you as long as they decide to do so. So you can also prevent spamming from the Contact Form by the use of security questions and other forms of verifications to prevent your email from being flooded with spammy content.

Are you going to write the first post now?

If you’ve caught up with this step then, you may be thinking about the next thing to do. Now is the time where you decide whether to write a first blog post or leave your website published without any posts but with all necessary information needed for a blog to be fully set up.

If you decide to start and write a first blog post, you will have to click on “Post> Add New” from your admin dashboard, where you’ll simply be taken to a fresh new page — a page never opened before but designed to be opened by you or anyone you hire to design your blog or

Stage 7

Promotion is one of the most crucial aspects of blogging, when you do it the right way, you’re a success and when driving in the wrong direction, you may want to adjust.

Most bloggers don’t talk about it but always run after monetization without promotion. When the two are balanced, there is no problem with monetizing your blog and ideas.

Promotion is hard at the beginning but down the channel or road, it becomes easy, and the best way to make promotion success is, to begin with, a strategy, stay consistent, and never lose track and hope.

You’ve just published your post and the post is exclusively live on your blog, only read by you without any other person? This is the time to hear up the blog for promotion.

You should spend a lot of time promoting your blog while writing and developing a good content strategy.

So, what the heck?
Where should I start and where am I going right now?

You have read this so far, and the next is to dive into promotion. Here’s the best guide to promoting your blog as strong as you may think about promotion.

Social Media Promotion:

It is hard finding a needle in a haystack but finding your audience and promoting your blog on social media has been easy. You can gladly say that you meet the audience on social media but haven’t seen them as your audience before getting started and joining the blogosphere.

Social media like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, Reddit, LinkedIn, etc are some of the greatest social networks available today.

But depending on the type of blog you have, type of niche, type of audience you’re targeting, and the form of goals you want to achieve, you can choose to try platforms that best suit your interest and will help you reach your target audience.

Time destruction and leaning on platforms that don’t help you achieve your goal will impact your blog negatively. So, trying the eight platforms where your audience is reached is the best decision ever because every social network inherently interests certain niches and specific types of people. While you’ve been on many social networks, connecting with others, friends, and families, you must be able to understand what each platform appeals to and entails.

  • Facebook is for curated content as it’s also for networking and video platform.
  • Twitter is for news, ideas, exposure, websites, and also blog posts.
  • Instagram is for high quality (resolution) photos, videos, stories, ideas, bio, quotes, etc.

  • YouTube is highly for video content — a large space for videos.
  • Reddit is for forums, discussion, and ideas fostering that help you connect with others with the same ideas and niche.
  • Quora is for connections, community, communication, forums, and ideas.
  • LinkedIn is for Portfolio Management, Professional Development, career news.

Read more on how to use social media to promote your blog.

  1. YouTube

The ultimate goal of using YouTube for promotion is to get your blog out on the social network, building more authority on social media, getting subscribers, and driving the audience to your blog by creating visual content.

Since YouTube is among the top 5 most used social networks in the world, you can develop a video content strategy and start publishing videos, thereby getting more viewers and turning them into your blog visitors.

A lot of viewers online are gearing to learn new things, preferably your audience is waiting to come across your YouTube channel and finding what you’re offering as long as you cover almost all what they need and things they are interested in learning. This is a good way to drive them back to your blog, making them readers and turning them into your loyal customers.

  1. Facebook: The largest platform for reaching your audience and promoting your blog. Create Facebook Page and maintain an active following to get readers to your blog without many efforts. You can also join Facebook groups and participate in open threads for promotion to make your readers keep going to your blog.

Interest is a large community that offers bloggers a great option to create an active follower with visual content, high-resolution, high-quality, and high-performance images in the form of pins, get traffic to their blogs and even get their customers coming to their website.

Pinterest pins help direct more traffic to your website when your content (shared on Pinterest) is showing up in Pinterest results after sharing which is completely effortless.

Other promotion factors — and tools to automate social media promotion.

Anyone that accepts “guest posts” loves to help others and also benefits from what other people are offering as guest authors. You can begin your guest post opportunity by guest blogging on relevant blogs from your niche or other niche and websites like Quora, Medium, Linkedin, etc.

You may decide to look for places with established audiences and write for them or write on their website as a guest author. By doing that, you’ll build strong credibility, and make your blog discoverable by others while building a consistent readership.

Joining Public Forums and Community.

Become a member of active forums and communities like Quora, Facebook, Online boards where you foster connections with others and your relevant audience. You can start by searching relevant groups on Facebook, topics on Quora, and other important communities to discover a good starting point from communities and forums.

How To Find The Right Communities To Join:

Explore and search Facebook or other communities to find groups to follow. Make sure these groups are relevant to your niche, are bloggers groups, not confusing and extremely demanding, not intimidating, and time-consuming or even stressful.

There are tons of groups out there on Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, and other social networks.

Note: Start by building strong connections, relationships with members of these communities because groups, forums, and message boards aren’t rooms where you’ll decide to drop links to your blog posts. Nada, you’ll need to benefit, provide value, and engage/become active in the communities before anyone starts to vibe with you or before asking for anything in return.

By looking for relevant groups to join, preferably where your audience already exists, you’ll be able to benefit and get a clear shot of your audience, thereby creating an easy path for promotion and improvement.

If you’re also trying to connect specifically with a niche-specific audience, you may want to explore and make use of the search space on Google, Facebook, or LinkedIn where a lot of suggestions are displayed based on your searched keywords.

List and Example Facebook Groups to Improve and Promote Your Blog

Building E-mail List and Creating Newsletter

Starting a real email list is a great idea, and you can do that preferably through an email service provider like Mailchimp, Sumo, Mailerlite, ConvertKit (all have free plans). Choose one and set up an account with them, and they’ll walk you through the process of creating an opt-in form or landing page to begin collecting email addresses.

While you’re just starting, it’s always a good idea to connect your regular visitors with your blog so that they can receive every update you make on the blog. You should start collecting Emails of your visitors, and the best option while just getting started is using a Pop-up by making sure it will not or doesn’t irritate visitors. Through an email list, you can also do giveaways, and send freebies to your subscribers, and even lots more.

Ponder: Your email list subscribers are always your VIP followers, people who are amazed by your work and love you for that. They are the people who have gone a step above all others to follow you and have given you their email so you can reach them directly. They’re more enthusiastic than even others who decide to check you up on social media or visit your blog. You want to know who these people are, and you want to take extra special care of them. This is also why email lists are often much easier to monetize and/or convert to blog traffic than social media. The email list is one of the best forms of promotion for your blog because your subscribers love you.

Blogging Tips & Strategies

Limit Login attempts to your WordPress dashboard

Hackers won’t stop knocking on your Dashboard just to gain access to it but you should allow them by being extra careful. They may try to break into your WordPress site by guessing your admin password.

WordPress allows registered users to try different passwords as many times as they want by default.

Changing this and adding an additional layer of security to your WordPress site is a good idea and attempt.

To have full control of this, password your WordPress directory, or
Install and activate the Login LockDown plugin which will allow you to set limits on the number of failed attempts a user can make to login.

Getting stock photos for your blog.

While you’re blogging, you may be tempted by the copy-paste act, copy-use act. This is obvious and can often appear when beginners are overwhelmed with their blog schedules.

When writers, bloggers get to show their works to the world, they get tempted to take shortcuts instead of writing that amazing blog post, articles, and sharing whatever inspires them, they have the urge for demands, just to make more money, or to make readers and visitors check on and off.

When they start getting enough visitors or readers and have the cherry on the cake, they believe writing articles, stories, poems, books every week is the way to the top of the cliff.

When they think about getting to the top of the cliff instead of acting purposely, they forget why they write, why they started blogging. They duplicate and love to act like the car on the fast lane.

Do not copy other content because it adds liability to a website as it grows.
Using images directly from Google may have several implications. It can add conditions to your website if the owner reports and take legal actions. It can result in a website being removed from search engines where it will basically constitute a negative impact on the website.

Choose your URL structure using available tags.

Permalinks are static hyperlinks that lead to a particular blog post or page. By default, WordPress sets your permalinks to

The simple fix is to set a permalink structure.

In the left sidebar, mouse-over “Settings” and choose “Permalinks.”

Which permalink structure should I choose for SEO?

The first option which is called plain is the default WordPress URL structure. This is not an SEO friendly option.

The day and name option are SEO friendly as it has the post name in it. However, with dates, the URL becomes too lengthy. But more importantly, after some time your content seems outdated, even if you regularly update it. Similarly, the month and name option also run the risk of being dated.

If you run a “news” website, then you want to have the dates in your URL to show it’s true freshly published news and improve the user experience.

  • Recommendation: those two structures are only good for news websites. Business websites, content websites that are hoping to create ever-green content should not choose this.

Post name option is the most SEO friendly because it is short and pretty. It shows the true description of your post!

If you are running a larger publication, then you can use a custom structure that can also be SEO friendly. Example;

At Exceptionalways, We use a custom permalink structure that adds a category name along with the post name in the URL.
